Several weeks ago, Pete installed a service door in our garage. Since our garage door opener no longer works and the door itself is very heavy (I can't open it myself), the use of a service door has been wonderful! Hopefully we'll get the garage door and opener replaced sometime this summer.
Before:
We think there was a service door at some point in the life of the garage - made the installation much easier!
Next up was a backyard patio. We tore the rotting deck off the back of the house last summer with the intent of replacing it right away. But then the water heater died, so we replaced that instead. That meant the patio was one of the first projects on the list for spring.
My brother Kevin, a gifted landscaper (check out his work here), worked with us to plan the space, got us a great deal on premium patio stone and materials, and gave up a portion of his weekend to help us. A huge thanks to Kevin and his family. My parents helped too - my dad with physical labor and my mom with watching Peyton, meal prep, etc.
The site was graded and prepped Friday night - this is work about to begin on Saturday morning.
The patio taking shape. One part of the project was shoring up a window well (behind Kevin in this picture). It looks so much better, plus will hopefully make our rec room a legal fourth bedroom when it comes time to sell someday (we think that was its original purpose).
